A federal court ruled today that Viagra is not a controlled substance and that it poses a significant potential danger to public health.
U. S. District Court Judge Rebecca Doherty has dismissed the lawsuit filed against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking to remove the drugs from the market.
On Thursday, the court ordered the company to file a complete and forward-looking ruling on the FDA’s approval of Viagra, a drug that has been on the market since 1998. The FDA has approved Viagra, the only drug to treat erectile dysfunction, to treat specific sexually transmitted diseases.
Viagra is the drug’s generic name, meaning that it is a prescription drug. It is also sold as a generic version under the brand name Cialis. But the FDA has not approved Viagra for use in humans and is not expected to be approved for human use. The company is required to conduct additional clinical studies to determine if it is safe for use by humans.
Viagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men, but there have been no studies on the safe use of the drug in humans.
“We are disappointed by the court’s decision,” said Michael J. Anderson, executive vice president of the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations. “Viagra is a significant safety risk and we will continue to vigorously defend the FDA’s approval of Viagra in our regulatory review process.”
The FDA said that it has not approved Viagra for human use, but it does not currently have any information about its use in humans. The agency also does not currently have information about the safety of Viagra in humans.
The FDA issued a press release in December about the court’s decision. It noted that the court had considered the drug’s potential for abuse to pose a serious health risk.
In June, the agency asked for an exemption from the Food and Drug Administration for Viagra. The drug is not expected to be approved for human use.

The FDA also requested that the company submit a safety analysis to the FDA, but it has not responded to the request.
“The FDA does not provide a basis for the agency to determine that Viagra is not safe or appropriate for human use,” said Dr. William J. Stoddart, chief clinical officer for the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations.
In addition to its FDA-approved uses, Viagra is also marketed by Pfizer and Eli Lilly. Pfizer has received Food and Drug Administration approval for a generic version of Viagra. Eli Lilly’s patent on the drug expired in November.
In June, Pfizer also applied for FDA approval for a similar drug, which is not approved for human use.
In November, the FDA sent a letter to doctors and others urging them to treat Viagra with caution and to seek a review of their drugs. The letter did not specify if they had received a warning about the risk of Viagra’s potential for abuse.
The FDA had already rejected Viagra’s approval request because of an overwhelming number of negative reports regarding the drug. According to the FDA, the drug has not been approved for use in humans.
“Our study does not confirm that Viagra is an appropriate treatment for erectile dysfunction, but it is more than enough to ensure that we have a safe and effective treatment for erectile dysfunction,” said Dr. Joseph V.
